Respect for privacy and the protection of your personal information is of the utmost importance to the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).
Scope of this Policy
This policy applies only to the FRQS website. It complies with the requirements of the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, CQLR c A-2.1 (Access Act) and any other applicable law.
The FRQS uses cutting-edge security technology to prevent loss or unauthorized use of your personal information under the FRQS' control. In addition, the FRQS' servers are protected by firewalls. However, no security technology is perfect, and there is always a slight risk that the personal information you provide could be divulged without your consent and through no fault of the FRQS. The FRQS cannot be held responsible for disclosure of your confidential information except in the case of negligence on the part of the FRQS.
Automatic Data Transmission
When you access the FRQS website, your computer and the site's server automatically exchange information. This automatic communication is necessary for the server to send files that are compatible with the type of computer equipment you use. The following information is transmitted:
- the domain name of your Internet service provider
- your IP address (e.g. 123.123.123), a unique number your Internet service provider automatically assigns to your computer each time you connect to the Internet
- the browser (e.g. Firefox, Explorer, Chrome) and operating system (e.g. Windows, Mac OS) you are using
- the pages you visit
- the date and time you access these pages
- the address of the referring site when you access the FRQS website from another site
The FRQS keeps this data for statistical purposes. It is used to record the number of visits, the pages most often visited, the technology used by the visitors, the referring sites and the visitors' country of origin.
The FRQS website is hosted in the province of Québec.
Use of Google Analytics
The FRQS website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc.
The data and your IP address are stored by Google on servers, including servers in the United States. This means that access to this information will be subject to local laws and the jurisdiction of local courts. It is important to note that Google Analytics anonymization will not be activated and your full IP address will be stored by them.
Google Analytics may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf.
Google Analytics is not used on the FRQS' secure sites (extranets).
You may install the Google Analytics deactivating add-on for browsers to prevent Google Analytics from storing any information on web sites you visited. Note that, even if you do so, certain data may be stored on the FRQS' servers.
You may opt out of Google Analytics by clicking on the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=fr
For further information on the use of Google Analytics, please refer to the following website: http://www.google.com/analytics/.
Use of Bitly
The FRQS website uses Bitly, a data collection and analysis service that allows for optimizing website efficiency and performance, including by providing statistics on traffic fluctuations.
Collection of Personal Information
As you browse our website, the FRQS does not automatically collect personal information about you without your consent (with the exception of that mentioned in the Automatic Data Transmission section above). The FRQS obtains this type of information only when supplied by you, for example, in an email or by filling out an on-line form.
If you voluntarily communicate personal information to the FRQS, by email, e-form or any other means, the FRQS will use only information to reply to your message or process your request in accordance with the mission of the FRQS.
Email is treated with the same confidentiality rules as for regular mail. We would like to remind you of the inherent risks of using email to communicate information of a personal nature. However, if you do choose to send personal information by email, then you consent to the FRQS replying by email.
If you use a computer in a public place or a shared computer, make sure that you delete the browsing history before logging out.
In accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information, CQLR c A-2.1 (Access Act), if the FRQS requests personal information from you, you will be informed of:
- the name and address of the FRQS
- the purposes for which the information is being collected
- the categories of persons who will have access to the information
- whether a reply is obligatory or optional
- the consequences in the case of a refusal to reply
- the rights of access and correction provided by the Access Act

By completing the subscription form to receive news from the FRQ, you accept that the FRQS stores this information and uses it to provide you with information using different communication media (E-mail, mail, etc.) in accordance with our mandate of communication with the scientific community and research knowledge mobilization. The nature of the information sent to you will vary according to the communication options you select in the form. Details are provided in the form for each communication category.
You also accept that your name and your answers to this questionnaire will be shared with the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC). These research funding agencies may use this information to contact you under the same conditions as those of the FRQS.
This information will be accessible to persons employed by or under contract to the FRQS, FRQNT and the FRQSC, when they are tasked with transmitting information on behalf of one of the research Funds.
