Award-winning publication: Incidence, Timing, and Predictors of Valve Hemodynamic Deterioration After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: Multicenter Registry
Published in: Journal of the American College of Cardiology
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a treatment of choice for patients suffering from inoperable severe aortic stenosis and a surgery alternative for high-risk patients. The research carried out by Maria Del Trigo aims to determine the factors that constitute the greatest risks of incidence for valve deterioration. The increasing need to treat younger and lower-risk patients, as well as the lack of solid post-treatment data, are among the reasons why these factors must be identified. The study results are the first to point to the importance of anticoagulant therapy in the months following TAVR to reduce the patient's risk of undergoing subsequent procedures as the valve continues to deteriorate.
