Active participation of children and adolescents with physical disabilities in community and school-based activities is vital to their health and overall well-being. Unfortunately, these children are at risk of experiencing lower levels of participation, which can in turn lead to poor health outcomes. To address this issue, I am studying new programs to increase the participation of this population in their community with the purpose of uncovering the various benefits (motor and mental) resulting directly from interventions that improve participation.

I am also testing new strategies for enhancing participation and inclusion in the school environment, with a special focus on improving the efficiency of services provided for students with disabilities who are integrated into regular classes. I am also involved in sharing research findings about children's participation with clinicians, families and policy makers. My goal is to make current scientific knowledge more accessible as well as to implement new evidence-based programs in clinical sites across Quebec. My ultimate vision is to contribute to the inclusion, health and development of children and youth with physical disabilities, as well as to promote participation-based practices, policies and communities. My efforts will facilitate the readiness of these children for living a healthy and independent adulthood by reaching their full potential. This work will also help reduce burdens on the healthcare and educational systems as well as on the youth and their families.
