My research program aims to optimize the prescription of medications to older adults in order to avoid the adverse effects so common in this vulnerable population and that too often surpass their benefits. In the first part of my research program, the proposed studies will be conducted in close collaboration with hospital pharmacists, community pharmacists and family medicine groups (GMFs).
My work will enable a fine analysis of medication use focused on the needs of seniors to reduce the use of potentially inappropriate drugs, and promote continuity of care between the hospital, GMFs and community pharmacies. The second part of my programming focuses on the OPUS-AP program conducted in CHSLDs for residents with major neurocognitive disorders. For these residents, OPUS-AP aims to reduce the use of antipsychotics and to promote a patient-centered approach as well as non-pharmacological measures for the management of the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
