This project aims to develop a neurofeedback intervention tailored to the neurocognitive and affective needs of young survivors of childhood cancer. Following treatment, more than 48% of survivors withstand neurocognitive sequels such as a lack of attentional abilities, memory loss, learning problems and attention deficit disorder. Analyses show that these sequels coexist with anxiety and chronic fatigue in this population.

Research highlights the need for therapies to treat the neurocognitives sequels and their affective repercussions in this population. Electroencephalogram (EEG) neurofeedback is a non-invasive intervention with the potentital to relieve certain sequels. An electrode placed on the head mesures the electrical brain activity transmitted by neurons. When the electric activity is desirable, the brain receives a visual and/or auditor stimulus. This process is similar to exercise for the brain and translate into subjective and symptomatic changes. Studies demonstrated the efficacy of neurofeeback to treat attention deficit disorders, chronic fatigue and anxiety.

The EEG neurofeedback intervention should reduce anxiety and fatigue in survivors, as well as enhance their attentional abilities. The project's impact in paediatric oncology concerns the long term follow up of survivors. EEG neurofeedback will be an important addition to the small number of interventions offered to treat the neurocognitive and affective sequels of young childhood cancer survivors.
