The Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, a rehabilitation hospital for the elderly, is known for its double mission, that of research and teaching. Its mission as a university-affiliated hospital is intimately connected with the activities of the research centre and encouraged by a strong research initiative. The research centre carries out this mission by implementing research on health systems and services as well as biomedical, clinical, social, cultural, and other factors that have an impact on the elderly.

The basis of this research rests on the integration of different disciplines as well as the interconnection between research and clinical activities. Many research projects involve patients at the Institut, which adheres to strict guidelines in order to ensure the protection of all research subjects.
